"Brother Marcus Borough" in London, England, is a vibrant restaurant that brings the flavors and spirit of the Eastern Mediterranean to the British capital. It is part of the small but growing Brother Marcus chain, founded by three friends – Arthur, Alex, and Tas – who share a passion for the cuisine and culture of this region. The location in Borough Yards, a revitalized area with Victorian railway bridges near the famous Borough Market, opened in the spring of 2022 and quickly established itself as a popular meeting spot for brunch lovers and food enthusiasts. The restaurant combines industrial charm with Mediterranean flair, offering a relaxed atmosphere that appeals to both locals and tourists.

An open kitchen invites guests to watch the chefs at work, while outdoor seating on sunny days creates a vacation-like ambiance. The design is modern yet warm, with stone walls and a touch of rusticity reminiscent of the Mediterranean coast. The music is subtle, often infused with a hint of vacation vibes, enhancing the casual and inviting atmosphere. It is a place suitable for a cozy breakfast or a dinner with friends.

Vegetarian options in London Borough

Culinarily, the restaurant represents a creative interpretation of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine, with influences from countries such as Greece, Turkey, and the Middle East. It is particularly known for its brunch offerings, served daily in the mornings and all day on weekends. A highlight is the Sweet Potato & Feta Fritters: crispy, golden fritters made from sweet potatoes, garnished with creamy feta, avocado, and a poached egg, enhanced with a touch of turmeric yogurt – a dish that is both light and filling. For meat lovers, the Jerk Chicken stands out with its smoky spice, often served with fluffy pita bread. In the evenings, guests transition to sharing plates, such as the delicious Baba Ganoush, a creamy eggplant dip served with fresh bread that perfectly captures the flavors of the Orient.

Cocktail bar with Mediterranean flavors

The cocktail menu is another strong point of "Brother Marcus Borough." Classic drinks are refreshed with Mediterranean notes that pair perfectly with the dishes. Service is an important part of the experience: the staff is friendly, attentive, and often ready to offer recommendations, whether for a dish or a matching drink. During peak times, it can become a bit hectic, but most guests appreciate the energy that the restaurant exudes. For larger groups, there is the option to reserve a separate area, making it ideal for celebrations or gatherings.

Came here the other day and was pleasantly surprised with how nice the food was. Had not heard of this place but decided to give it a go. We had a slight wait on a busy weekend so left my number and came back once they had space. Decided to go for a coffee and the fried chicken dish which was very enjoyable. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and restaurant was very cosy on a cold and windy day! Definitely recommend if you are passing and looking for somewhere to eat in the local area.

First time eating at Brother Marcus Borough and to be honest we were very underwhelmed. Having eaten at their Covent Garden restaurant several times previously there was no comparison. Covent garden is a far more superior restaurant in food, service and ambience. We met our daughter and friends at the borough restaurant for ease of locality to their flat and we were so excited for our dinner but it was not the experience we were hoping for. We booked early dinner at 5pm and the restaurant was pretty empty but soon filled up quickly. The staff were polite but not at all attentive we had to keep asking for drinks which took ages to arrive. The food came out pretty cold and bland. Plus at different times so left us eating our fish main course on its own at the end of the meal after asking twice for it. The food was over priced and very underwhelming which was very disappointing. We wouldn’t return to this restaurant sadly.

Disappointing. Food was not as it should - a toast with poche egg had eggs hard boiled instead. This made the dish rather unpleasant. Americano was good.

The place is small, super busy, crowded and loud. Clean place and the staff is friendly. I think this place is good for drinks and appetizers. We ordered pork and chicken which was super dry. The Pita side is very good. The brownie dessert was super dried, seemed like it was 3 days old, not fresh at all.

Alina gave us great service and the food was lovely! We tried the Marcus choice where they pick the dishes for you and it took all of the effort out of deciding and we got to try some different things to what we usually would’ve picked!

Food was great, tad on the pricey side but it was a little bit more elaborate than your typical Middle Eastern place. “Good value” is about 20% less costly I’d say, it’s still just a posh kebab, some pitta bread and hummus. Nice just pricey. The inside was super noisy so thankfully it was sunny and we could sit outside because I could not hear myself think inside. Table service a bit hit and miss, stuff took an age to come out, drinks orders were forgotten and then some waitress through a sizzling kebab down my back as she came out of the side door. They were apologetic enough etc but would have thought they’d be a little quicker clearing plates we were done with and keeping drinks flowing seen as not every customer gets a griddle pan of molten lava thrown down their back whilst dining, but hey I’m still alive and the sun is shining, so there’s that. Would I return? Nah not really, so much better value on offer locally and the service was uninspiring. Soft next. Lovely place to sit outside in the sun though, but enjoy a meal deal in a park bench and have less boiling oil thrown down you 🤷‍♂️
